Technical Editor, Journeyman

Provide AFOTEC Det 6 with Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) as a Technical Editor with written technical publication products resulting from multiple operational test activities and in support of Operational Test & Evaluation (OT&E) programs located at Nellis AFB, NV. Provide editing, proofreading, and writing support during the production of classified and unclassified documents. Maintain document control while managing the internal and external document routing.


Essential Job Functions:


Provide quality control of all outgoing products.


Edit, track, and maintain awards, OPB/EPB's, PRF's, and decorations.


Assist authors in applying standardized formats of test plans, test reports and other products.


Utilize guidelines and templates for documentation, with the ability to also create templates, if needed.


Ensure documents are finalized to a superior standard of technical writing.


Facilitate coordination and approval of products, when necessary.


Curate products in repositories for archival purposes.


Maintain document control.


Identify changes for version control.


Required Skills:


Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required


A Bachelors degree, preferred in Journalism, English, Applied Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or another related field plus 12 years of experience is required.


Active TS/SCI Clearance.


Well-qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in technical editing for OT&E.


Experience developing test plans, reports, and other formal technical documents, preferably for military aircraft test programs, or related airborne subsystems.


Knowledge of the handling, processing, and disposition of highly confidential information. SAP experience preferred.


Expertise in technical writing and editing are required, as well as proficiency in document authoring software such as Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.


Expertise in using Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel for technical writing, plus related software tools for Authoring, Publishing, Screen Capture, Image editing, Spell check, Configuration control, and Version History.


Skilled in editing and generating graphics and animations, that demonstrate complex technical system concepts, working with math equation editors, review of grammar and syntax within documents for correctness and consistency.


Experience with writing tools, or applications, including generating automatic hyperlinks, Table of Contents, List of Figures and List of Tables within a template document.


Detail oriented with the verbal and written skills to deliver professional advice & assistance to Program Leadership.


Ability to plan and organize work, adapt to meet deadlines and work under pressure.


Ability to work both independently and as a team member.


Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
