As a member of our tream, you will provide leadership and oversight for a specialized transition aged youth program.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for supervising staff, completing all components of employee supervision, work also involves case oversight and intervention, performing complex and sensitive case work when needed, training staff in policies and procedures, monitoring quality, collaborating with stakeholders and adhering to grant budget guidelines and conditions of award.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions.
The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Child Development, Psychology, Special Education, Behavioral Science, Counseling, Early Childhood Education, Health Science, Human Services, Education, Nursing, Criminal Justice, Social Services, Sociology, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, Marketing or Social Science AND four (4) years of full-time experience providing protective casework/counseling services, assessments or treatment services or performing administrative, organizational analysis or budgetary experience in a child welfare, social service, juvenile justice and/or residential setting; One (1) year of which were lead or supervisory in one or more elements of a comprehensive child welfare, social service, juvenile justice and/or residential system.
Possession of an advanced degree may be substituted for one (1) of the years of required experience.

Licensing and Certification:
Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.
Working Conditions:

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES In the Department of Family Services (DFS), the Family Services Supervisor functions as the first level of supervision for staff in a designated area.
Due to the diverse utilization of the position, incumbents in this classification may be assigned to supervise any unit within any of the following divisions:
Child Protective Services (CPS), Hotline, Child Receiving/Placement, Shelter/Family Visitation Services, Permanency Case Management (Out-of-Home, In-Home or Adoptions), Foster Parent Recruitment and Licensing, Fiscal Services, Quality Assurance/Improvement, Eligibility, or Administrative Services.
Child Welfare Specific Duties May receive potential complaints of child abuse and neglect; Assesses the level of response required and assigns to appropriate staff; Follows-up accordingly, specifically regarding complex cases.
Provides ongoing case review; Provides direct intervention, including crisis, family and child counseling as required; May perform the full range of protective services case and court work, particularly in difficult, sensitive or complex situations; May conduct interviews, recommends custody release, identifies service plans, provides referrals to other agencies and follows-up to ensure effective treatment provision; Administers discipline as required; Writes and reviews staff performance evaluations; Develops administrative procedures to maintain balanced caseloads; Performs a variety of special studies and reviews; Prepares complete and accurate case notes; writes correspondence, reports and other written materials; Participates in in-service training.
May review and evaluate treatment plans submitted by staff; May performs direct intervention, including therapeutic activities, family and child counseling; Contributes as a team member in case planning and placement planning for children using various assessment and screening tools to identify needs and strengths; Administrative/General Duties:
Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of professional and support staff; Plans, organizes and directs complex administrative, operational, budgetary or other studies; Recommends selection of staff and participates in the interview selection process when needed; Trains staff in work procedures and policies; Provides professional development; Writes and administers discipline as required; May provide input into unit budgetary processes; May prepare statistical reports and summaries.
Establish goal setting processes and benchmarks for the unit assigned; Develops work schedules to maximize resources, ensure timely service provision and ensure 24-hour coverage for certain division; Prepares narrative and statistical reports; Contributes to the overall quality of the unit's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
Represents the department in meetings with service providers and other public and private organizations; Confers with other departmental supervisors regarding service provision and coordination; Responds to emergencies as required.
Makes presentations to and confers with members of educational institutions, community groups and the public; Provides complex and sensitive management and programmatic support and recommendations to upper management Assists in developing goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards May develop and implement funding and staffing requirements for the programmatic area to which assigned; Reviews and analyzes alternatives and makes recommendations regarding such matters as organizational structure, team and quality improvement alternative and legal/regulatory development and implementation; Evaluates employee performance and completes performance evaluations for designated staff Acts as the first level of counsel for employees assigned to their units; May prepare and direct the preparation of audits, financial statements and varied fiscal reports; Examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with agreements, contracts, and state and federal regulations; Ensures that staff follows safety procedures and that public safety and security procedures are followed; Reviews records, police reports, prior and current files; Develops training programs and educational materials related to area(s) of assignment.
Schedules and facilitates unit and various group meetings to ensure the quality and consistency of service provision Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; Drives a personal or County motor vehicle to attend off-site meetings and make site visits and transport children; Maintains and directs the maintenance of accurate records and files; Prepares correspondence, reports, training information and a variety of written materials.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and be capable of commuting to various off-site locations in order to attend meetings or make on-site visits; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
Specified positions may require mobility and stamina to assist families experiencing crisis and support child safety and well-being.
