Environmental Engineer

At the entry level of this position, you will:
-Serve as national engineering expert in the design and implementation of treatment and clean up technologies at hazardous waste sites. Provide expert engineering advice and guidance on latest treatment technologies to mitigate contaminants at environmental emergencies, removal and remedial sites. -Develop and implement novel and advanced engineering analytical approaches to address problems associated with environmental emergencies and uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. Use engineering/scientific instrumentation in the field to locate hazardous materials and augment multi-media contamination investigation. -Advise on-scene coordinators, remedial project managers, and other Regional or Federal officials on design and implementation of innovative and advanced engineering approaches for treatment and cleanup of contaminated sites. -Interpret results of site investigations and prepare complete reports, including discussion of new approaches, techniques and technologies. Review literature and research documents to identify new remediation approaches to met site specific and national program needs. -Respond to complex, uncontrolled hazardous waste sites and emergencies to provide technical assistance on methods for mitigating accidental or purposeful releases of hazardous materials. Provide technical assistance in response planning based upon existing EPA programs that address hazardous material emergencies. When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements. One or more positions may be filled. In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
GS-12 Engineering experience supporting the implementation of remedial technologies at oil and hazardous waste site contaminated sites; knowledge of techniques and equipment to characterize site contaminants. Presents to regions and other officials on appropriate remediation technologies to clean up contaminated sites. GS-13 Engineering experience implementing remediation technologies at sites contaminated by oil spills and hazardous wastes; knowledge of techniques and equipment to conduct site characterizations. Advises appropriate regional and federal officials on remediation technologies and designs to clean up contaminated sites. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
-Knowledge of professional engineering concepts and principles to evaluate contamination and develop environmental engineering recommendations and solutions for environmental emergencies and determine cleanup and remediation activities for oil and hazardous materials spills and incidents. -Knowledge of statutory programs. Ability to convey expert advice on assessment and engineering evaluation, and optimal approach to hazardous waste remediation. -Ability to identify new approaches and procedures applicable to assessment and clean up for hazardous waste sites and environmental emergencies. -Knowledge of implementing agency quality program. -Ability to provide expert advice in a concise and direct manner that is sensitive to needs of Federal officials and response partners. -Skill in determining the most publicly acceptable, cost effective approach to hazardous waste remediation. -Ability to analyze and interpret environmental data for use in assessments and response operation decisions. -Ability to convey expert advice and interpretation of environmental data collected and results of environmental studies. -Knowledge of emergency response. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
