Yamaha YBL-321 Bass Trombone for sale in Las Vegas, NV
Yamaha YBL-321 Bass Trombone. This is a .562 bore horn with a 9 1/2" bell. It's based on the Conn 72H design. Recently back from repair where end play in the rotor was fixed, and a twist was taken out of the slide. This horn is a very easy and natural feeling double for a tenor player looking for a more powerful bottom end without the expense and weight of two valves, a second horn for the full-time bass player that needs a backup horn, or student looking for a horn to learn on that's also useful throughout their career. Yamaha marketed these as a student horn, there are no tangible differences between the 321s and later evolutions of the model. The design, construction, and materials are consistent with professional level instruments and it shows in the sound this horn produces. This horn is ready to play, and will serve anyone who is looking for a single-valve bass for whatever reason. I purchased it for use in a big band on 4th parts where it performed quite nicely. The only reason I'm selling it is I found another horn for a great price that I like more. It's definitely been around the block. As near as I can tell, I'm the second owner and the original owner really put this horn through its paces. There's freckling in the lacquer, scratches on the slide exterior (doesn't affect slide feel), and the red brass bell has darkened with age. That said, this ~60yr old horn easily has another 60 years left in it. In the right hands, it can fit into a big band, concert band, orchestra, or small ensemble with ease. The tone is dark but flexible and will deliver plenty of power when pushed. Comes with original case in serviceable condition. Case has been thoroughly cleaned and still has some life left in it, but when I played this horn I kept it in a ProTec bag. That bag can be added for an additional fee at the buyer's discretion.
