For Sale at Auction: 1966 Shelby Cobra in Las Vegas, Nevada for sale in Las Vegas, NV
Vehicle Description This 1966 Shelby Cobra re-creation is powered by a 427ci side-oiler engine with four Weber twin-choke carburetors backed by a 4-speed manual transmission.
According to a recent detailed inspection, this alloy-bodied car includes a mix of original and non-original parts such as a custom stainless steel fuel cell that was fabricated and installed during the current ownership.
Affectionately known as the Other Cobra, this car is surrounded by intrigue and a tale of two paths.
The Cobra numbered CSX3231 was an original 428ci powered 1966 model.
The SAAC Cobra Registry-documented story starts much as it does for the bulk of these legends.
Delivered to Charlotte, North Carolina, CSX3231 was purchased new by a Naval officer stationed in Charleston, remaining there under two more owners through the 1970s, with the usual street and autocross usage and some repaired body damage resulting from a fender bender.
Eventually, a sale ad drew a buyer from Los Angeles, who flew into Charleston and drove the Cobra back to California.
Malpractice attorney Richard Pierce is the next known owner of the CSX3231.
Among his enterprises, Pierce formed a short-lived joint venture with Richard Buxbaum of Hinsdale, Illinois, and UK Cobra enthusiast Brian Angliss.
Reportedly, Pierce's investment of nearly $65,000 was redirected into the restoration of the CSX3231 and at this fork in the road, the Cobra's history follows two paths.
In 1980, both Pierce and his secretary were shot in his office following a business dispute and the Cobra was sold.
Late in 1981, a Cobra stated as CSX3231 was advertised by Paul Beaton of Hertfordshire, UK, described as being Completely rebuilt during '78 on an original chassis and body, by professional Cobra specialists, using original AC equipment with Indigo Blue paint, black upholstery, and Halibrand wheels.
It was sold to a person in France, remaining there to at least 2006.
However, in late 1981, Californian Peter Vakovsky purchased the car offered here, also numbered CSX3231, from Beaton, with beige, rather than black, upholstery.
Not knowing the story, the current owner purchased this car in October of 2000 with the title reflecting the number CSX3231 on it.
After learning of the story the current owner has transparently provided a good, clean, transferable Arizona title with a state-assigned VIN.
TITLED AS 1966 OTHER SPECON PREVIEW.
